Some of the Tablet Operating Systems available are Google Android, Apple iOS, HP WebOS, RIM Blackberry, Windows 7. Every platform has its own strengths and weaknesses.
1. Google’s Android :
Google recently has released the new Honeycomb Version of Android OS (Android 3.0) just for tablets. Some of the existing tablets run on Android 2.2 and Android 2.3. These versions were not optimized for tablets but still used in Galaxy Tab and HTC flyer.
Pros:
- Matured platform
- Multitasking
- Availability of applications through Google’s Android store
- Full support for adobe flash
- Optimized user interface
- Support high end devices and dual core processors
- Lot of useful widgets and customizable home screen
Cons:
- Less optimized apps available while compared with Apple iStore which has 65000+ awesome apps
2. Apple iOS :
Apple revolutionized the entire Tablet market with its iPad. iPad2 is the most powerful Tablet released by apple equipped with the iOS.
Pros:
- Best OS you would have ever experienced
- Simple and intuitive user interface
- Sensitivity speaks, UltraSmooth Navigation
- Appstore support from Apple for its tablet optimized apps, games
Cons:
- iOS is a closed platform unlike Android which is open source
- Lack of support for Adobe Flash and widgets
- Media Sharing goes Complex
- Restrictions with Bluetooth file transfer.
3. HP WebOS :
HP’s WebOS is considered as the most user-friendly for touch screen devices and mobiles, running well in the market, but still not a powerful competitor.
Pros:
- Optimized for multitasking
- Adobe flash support
- Good user interface
Cons:
- Limited number of devices
- Limited number of apps
4. RIM Blackberry Tablet OS :
RIM is known for its Blackberry kind of business phones. They have introduced a new tablet platform for their Blackberry Playbook tablet.
Pros:
- Trust of users on Blackberry
- Pairing with Blackberry Smartphone’s
Cons:
- New OS
- Limited number of apps and devices available
- No 3G
5. Microsoft Windows 7 :
Windows 7 Released by the tech giant Microsoft ruling the industry in Personal computers and Netbook Operating Systems. But not optimized for Tablets though.
Pros:
- Trusted
- Support of a variety of apps including desktop apps
Cons:
- Non optimized user interface
- Not touch friendly

No flash support from Apple is a real problem for me. I will stick to Android development and personal use of android devices for now. The Android Market has exploded lately, quality seems to be questionable for some apps.
