How to Set up a Second Computer to Use my iTunes Account?

July 11, 2015 by Siddharth Leave a Comment

Setting up a second computer to use your iTunes account was a concept first introduced by Apple. This paved way for the concept of Home sharing in which multiple computers were networked together on the same Wi-Fi network to share music between their individual iTunes libraries. With the help of this innovation, one could listen to music stored on another computer in the same house as well as copy or transfer music files between computers or iPhones.

Procedure to set up another computer to use iTunes account

First you should make sure that you possess iTunes 9 or higher versions, since Home sharing is unavailable in earlier versions. Activating Home sharing can be done in two ways: either by turning on the home sharing option from the left side of iTunes page or from the Advanced menu option. Either of the two can be clicked on. To turn on the option of home sharing, the iTunes account information which you need to access is entered. Care should be taken to ensure that all computers connected via Home sharing should use the same iTunes account. The tab specifying “Create Home Share” is clicked to turn on the option of Home sharing. This enables other compters on the same Wi-Fi network to access your iTunes library.

In the same manner, the section specifying “Shared” will reveal other iTune libraries which you can access. The Home sharing option is turned off by clicking on the “Turn Off Home Sharing” key in the advanced menu.

Setting up a second computer to use your iTunes account is necessary so that you need not lose your collection of music and other apps already stored in your iTunes library. This also enables sharing so that you can refresh your iTunes library from time to time by accessing iTunes libraries of users connected to the same network. Therefore, iTunes can help you to transfer your music files so that you can sync and play it from the new computer. When you buy music you have to authorize the other computer too so that you can access music purchased on both computers. iTunes can be activated and authorized on five computers at a time.
