The budget smartphone segments in India has been getting more and more competitive by the day. This segment had been revolutionised by the likes of Xiaomi, Motorola and Micromax in India. However, Xiaomi can be excused on the grounds that it only sells one device at a time and that too with a limited inventory. Moreover, Motorola and Micromax have been consistent with their launch pattern with several handsets launched in this segment. These handset manufacturers have launched two winners in this segment, namely Micromax Canvas Nitro and Moto G 2nd Gen. This writeup is a roundup of the features of each handsets to decide, which among these are better handset.
Price Point
Take any comparison writeup and the foremost deciding factor is always the price of the handsets in question. This makes a lot of sense as in a price conscious market like India, the budget is set first and then the alternatives are searched. However, coming to the Micromax Canvas Nitro and Moto G 2nd Gen, there is no scope of comparing as both costs almost the same. The Canvas Nitro launched with a price tag of INR 12,990 (currently available online for INR 11799, check price on prieraja.com), whereas, the Moto G 2nd Gen sets you back by INR 12,999. Both handsets costs effectively the same, which brings us to the other factors to decide.
DISPLAY
Here too, both handsets stand at par with each other as there is a 5-inch HD IPS display on both devices offering crisp and sharp resolution. However, the Moto G 2nd Gen offers Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the display as compared to the Oleophobic coating on the Canvas Nitro. This is where the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen wins hands down as the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 makes for a sturdier scratch-proof and shatter-resistant display.
PROCESSOR
This is where the Micromax Canvas Nitro comes to the fore, as it comes equipped with a 1.7 GHz MediaTek’s true Octa-core processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM. On the other hand, Moto G 2nd Gen comes equipped with a 1.2GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor backed by 1GB. However, a point to be noted here is that Tru Octa-core from MediaTek, equipped in the Canvas Nitro is believed to be a true battery hogger as well and not all applications on App Store are optimised for an Octa-core processor as of now. On the other hand, Snapdragon 400 chipsets are trusted and is considered one of the best in the world.
CAMERA
It seems that when it comes to specifications, Canvas Nitro is quite ahead of the Moto G 2nd Gen. The handset comes equipped with a 13 Megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX135 CMOS sensor and 5 Megapixel front snapper. Moto G 2nd Gen on the other hand, boasts of an 8 Megapixel rear camera and 2 Megapixel front camera. However, we would like you to understand that megapixel count is but just a number and the image quality actually depends on various factors like lens type, aperture and lens size, among others. Various imaging tests have revealed that the 8 Megapixel snapper on the Moto G is actually quite a performer.
With this write-up we tried to scratch the surface of the competition between these two devices by taking into consideration, most basic features. Both these handsets are a good value for money device in the market as of now. Micromax Canvas Nitro is one of the most feature-rich handset offered by the Indian handset manufacturer at this price range. On the other hand, the Moto G 2nd Gen is the new iteration of the best-selling Moto G with the addition of the sorely missed microSD card slot. Both device have their fan followings and are a good option in this price.
