Twitter history is unique, interesting, and special. Founded by Evan Williams, Jack Dorsey, and Biz Stone in March 2006, Twitter is one of the most powerful social networking sites. It all began when a group of programmers at Odeo, Inc. were trying to find a way to send sms to a group of individuals. Odeo was a podcasting platform which enabled users to share, create, and record podcasts. The three founders came up with a new product named Twttr which was later changed to Twitter. Through Twitter, a person can send a text based sms of up to 140 characters which we call as “Tweet”.

The real history of Twitter :

The employees at Odeo, Inc. have a different story about the history of Twitter. According to them, Twitter was the dream of an entrepreneur, Noah Glass who started Odeo in his apartment. Noah Glass co-founded Twitter in 2006 and he is the actual brain behind the amazing social networking tool. Noah and Evan worked together as Evan was very interested in Odeo than anyone else in the team. Later, Odeo was moved to Evan Williams’ house. From there, the journey of Odeo was astounding. Odeo moved into an office space and started hiring more employees.  What started out as a podcasting platform later changed into a powerful social networking tool.

How it worked?

The name twitter means “a short burst of inconsequential information”. This short burst of information changed the world upside down. In October 2006, the founders of Twitter purchased all the shares of Odeo.com and Twitter.com for various investors and shareholders. Later in the year 2007, Twitter became an individual company. The year 2007 was a golden year for Twitter. The usage of Twitter increased from 20,000 tweets to 60,000 and users kept pouring in. The first version of Twitter was used only by the employees of Odeo and the later version was made public. Twitter’s history changed overnight and it took its first step towards the road to victory.

Growth of Twitter

How does a small company like Twitter reach the pinnacle of success within a short period of time? Many people baffle about Twitter history. They do not know how it all happened at such short notice. An average of 400,000 tweets was posted in the year 2007. Twitter has seen a drastic growth in the field of social networking over the recent years. The answers to this mystery are the hard work of the Twitter employees and the huge support from Twitter supporters worldwide. Often quoted as “SMS of the Internet”, Twitter was a huge hit right from the start. The SMS feature of Twitter allows users to send text messages up to 160 characters. Twitter not only attracted the common people, but also politicians, business magnets, celebrities, etc. worldwide.

Twitter Today :

Twitter history tells the story of a small micro blogging site becoming a world-renowned social networking site. This amazing social networking site has helped users around the world to make friends and renew friendship with old friends and school mates. As of this year, Twitter has an average of around 200 million users worldwide. Not only this, Twitter generates over 200 million tweets and handles over 1.6 billion search queries per day.Bloggers, speaker, business corporates, and even the common public are huge Twitter fans. The most amazing fact is that nearly 70,000 applications are being created with the help of Twitter API.
