In recent days we have seen language translators , tools to manage our schedules and office suite to take notes and keep documents on hand now lets check some special Back to School applications to take advantage of our Android .

Best Android applications for Education

E-book readers

In this installment will discuss the ebook readers . Although the screens of smartphones and tablets are not the best to read and not bad to use at times is a good choice. For this collection I bring you the best ebook readers for Android.

GO Book :

Those who know a little scene you know that Go Android Dev Team has considerable experience developing applications of all types and recently encourage a reader of ebooks. The application has a very nice interface and facilitates the management of books, makes reading it quite comfortable and pleasant .

go-book-android-app

Beyond the bells and whistles in the effects to turn the page GO Book has many settings to customize our reading : font size, switch between day and night, searching the document and save the page to where we go.

The only downside to this application is its poor compatibility. txt files can only open and epubs(without DRM ). If we use this format usually no problem but those who use others as a PDF or mobi will have to resort to alternatives. Beyond that is an application very useful, well designed and well fulfills its mission. It is also completely free.

Moon + Reader

Let’s talk about a classic application for Android already: Moon + Reader. This ebook reader is quite versatile, a virtue that shows in his wide range of choices : ten issues to display the books, all options to adjust the font, the ability to set options in gestures and buttons …

moon-reader-android-app

One of the most interesting options for Moon + Reader is also possible to use our own books to consult an online catalog ( OPDS ) free books (mostly in English) and read them. Interface level meets and although the menus are not as nice as in GO Book reading when it works perfectly.

As for Moon + Reader format is a bit more flexible and well and txt epubs accepts html, umb, fb2, CHM and zip . The application is free and has a paid version (3.44 euros) that removes the advertising and adds extra features such as password-protected books, to make annotations and highlight.

Aldiko Book Reader

Known to come preinstalled on many devices Aldiko Book Reader is a simple ebook reader that, despite not having as many options as the previous display saves a couple of aces up his sleeve to convince .

aldiko-android-app

On the one hand, besides the files we have on the SD, we can access a large catalog of books , mostly in English though. Many of them are free and other payment that can be bought directly from the application. Something to thank those who usually buy ebooks in English.

On the other hand Aldiko allows us to open PDFs . While the application is limited because it only opens epubs Adobe format and is thankful to have support for a file type that today is widely used. Like previous Aldiko is also free and has paid version. This is one of the Best Android applications for Education

FBReader

If a reader ebooks look simple but functional FB Reader is an option to consider. With a small selection of supported formats (epub, fb2 OEB and) we have a very fast application and with many customization options when it comes to reading the books.

fb-reader-android-app

As the above also allows us to use our phone files download books online catalogs. The application is completely free and is distributed with open source license GPL .

Cool Reader

If what we like is the customization and open any file CoolReader is the application we are looking for.Besides epubs has support for fb2, doc, txt, rtf, html, chm, tcr, pdb, prc, mobi and pmi so, except the pdf, we can use almost any e-book.

In addition to a number of customization options for viewing and it is striking that we can customize the style of the application via CSS so that, if we have a little background knowledge, like we put our application.

Although the interface is not as attractive as we have seen above makes up more than enough with plenty of customization options . Like the rest Cool Reader is free but we can donate to the developer by purchasing any of the three paid versions that are in the Android Market.

Dictionaries and encyclopedias

Offline Dictionaries

If we do not have Internet access and want to have downloaded in our dictionaries we Offline Dictionaries Android, as its name suggests, allows you to save different dictionaries for use at any time . In addition to a Spanish dictionary from Wiktionary diccinarios can download several translations, but the issue discussed in another installment of this special.

The interface works well and although it may be more elaborate fulfills its mission. To use Offline Dictionaries necessarily have to download and we can not interpolate between those who have downloaded and which are available online. Also, some dictionaries as the Spanish are a bit mesados ??(49 MB).

Offline Dictionaries is free and has ads within the application. If we remove it, and support to its creator, we can buy the Pro version for 99 cents.

ColorDict Dictionary

Offline Dictionaries If we are not convinced and want an application that intersperse offline dictionary offline functions ColorDict is an option to consider. In addition to online services such as Wikipedia, Wordnet or you can download additional dictionaries StarDict from the Android Market, although the number available is quite short.

colordict-android-app-education

The application is very intuitive and when seeking a term in a list shows all results from each source you have configured or installed. Although the interface is better is fully functional and well designed.ColorDict Dictionary is available for free on the Android Market.

Wapedia, mobile wiki

We have seen three dictionaries and now we talk about applications that allow us to read the wikis , sources of knowledge more or less true but serve as reference for further research on our own. One such application a project that has long been on the net: Wapedia.

wapedia-android-app-for-education

With Wapedia can see any version of Wikipedia wikis as well as other issues that, although a little out of the subject, in some cases can be quite useful and enriching. The application, free, works quite well but it’s just embedded and web version does not offer options such as downloading articles. This is one of the Best Android applications for your Education

Wikidroid

If we Wapedia falls a bit short and we want to download articles from any of the Wikipedias have Wikidroid. An application that allows you to search articles in either of these pages and see an optimized way in our Android.

wikidroid-android-app

Both the free version as payment allows you to download pages on the SD and consult at any time. Like the other applications we’ve seen is very simple but very well fulfills its mission . ¿Do you usually use these applications regularly? I like to always carry a dictionary and Wikipedia reader up for any questions you may have or to read any entry in the wiki to learn something new.

Scientific Calculators

MemCalc

We started rescuing MemCalc, a calculator that we present recently . The defining feature is the ability MemCalc stored in three memory slots with the results of the calculations, for use in future operations. To use these memory boxes just have to drag them to the intermediate results of calculations.

memcalc-android-app

It has basic scientific operations such as trigonometric, logarithmic, and exponential powers, sufficient if you do not need overly complex calculations .

RealCalc

We continue with another old acquaintance, Real Calc, which we discussed in your day . This is a standard scientific calculator with an interface very similar to the Casio Classic (four models and all did the same …). And as we said, also works on Honeycomb , albeit crude.

realcalc-calculadora-cientifica-android-app

Besides all the functions of these calculators as well known, has a unit converter , RPN, and takes very, very little disk.

Schedules and task managers

A + Timetable

If we really like the traditional task managers, such as Astrid Gstasks or we can use A + Timetable to have our schedule in the event that our class routine is always the same. No doubt this application is the closest thing to having the time painted on the folder lifetime.

aplus-android-app

Visually it is nice but does not allow much more . Simply add the times and view them at any time. It also has a widget that lets you see the times of day on the desktop, which can be quite useful. And one option is to export negligible calendar to an image, so print it.

This application, you see, is quite easy and free. Something simple for what we will see below, but if you want to walk with many complications is sufficient to schedule in his pocket, see the widget what touches us today, and use other applications to manage tasks.

HomeWork

We begin the analysis of applications to compete with schedules and assignments HomeWork , a very complete at this point, and does not cease to be free. It really is a very powerful tool for organizing in a right way and the only downsidethat the visual appearance is improved.

homework-android-app

The application lets you manage the schedule of a very powerful way . To give you an idea can make temporary changes to a class schedule, if for example there is a day that the teacher can not go and create an alternative schedule. In addition, clicking on a class you can add tasks to perform or test dates. We never forget deadlines or exams. This turns out to be one of the Best Android applications for home Education.

It also has desktop widgets to view our schedule or tasks in a comfortable way. And there are indications own time if we have a task to complete before the class, which is very comfortable and just looking at the schedule to know if there is unfinished business.

Buddy Class

Buddy Class on one of the most famous applications of schedules and tasks, so in the back to school will become one of the most downloaded. This application lets you organize your schedule, adding many details to the subjects as a means of evaluation. It also lets you add tasks such as tests and assignments.

classbuddy-android-app

A novel about Homework is that it also add the grade obtained in the tests and assignments made, so we can carry in your pocket always scores. It also provides a powerful backup tool so you never lose your data. Widget also features desktop notifications for tasks, and can sync with Google Calendar, to view the information directly from any computer.

The application is subject to charges, costs 1.06 euros, but there are also a lite version with reduced functionality, and a demo version, functional for two weeks, so we can try all the features. Everything becomes easy for us fans of this complete application. I miss a Castilian version, are the details that you miss a payment application.

School Helper

School Helper is an application, maybe not the best, but I liked their look. Allows you to organize schedules, tasks, notes, exams, and take some notes. All of this visual aspect of a blackboard . The schedule is shown in tabs, which is not entirely comfortable, but other options are fine.

schoolhelper-android-app

How to add a review or a task is very intuitive, and allows sorting by relevance. In the main window we can see all the day’s activities, both as class assignments and tests to be performed. Very convenient and useful for day to day.

The application is free and supported languages are English and German. Is again missing the Castilian, but we can not remain free to require both. This application also has to show widgets on the desktop, of various sizes. Of course an alternative to anything seen before.

Nice list of apps, but I’m sure my school going nephews are not going to be interested in using them, not when those damn Angry Birds are around! Though I must say, the kids today are a lucky lot!
