Technology behind Cloud Computing has become necessary to understand as the phrase “Cloud Computing” has been trending in tech news over the recent years. Although, this term is being heard and spoken of frequently, not many people clearly know what “Cloud Computing” exactly means. The technology behind Cloud Computing is something most internet-users get benefited from on an everyday basis without actually realizing it.

Cloud Computing is the technology that provides remote access to a “shared” pool of computing resources like servers, applications, and storage that can be altered and accessed without considerable interaction with the service provider. A simpler way of understanding the technology behind Cloud Computing is that it enables one to perform actions that would usually be performed on their computer (e.g. using software) from any computer over the interal-network or internet. Web mail is an example of regular Cloud use. In place of using an e-mail client that downloads one’s e-mail to his hard drive, web mail can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection.

Cloud Computing can be categorized into two divisions, the user-end and the service-end. The service-end is a constellation of different internet servers where applications and data are hosted. These are what put the “Cloud” in Cloud Computing. Although the Cloud might be made up of thousands of servers, they are effectively configured to work together as a unit, gathering all of their collective computing powers. The user-end comprises individuals and businesses that access the applications and data stored on these servers. Some Cloud Applications like photo-sharing services and web-based e-mail provide access through one’s browser. Other applications use customized software for accessing the Cloud. A working internet connection is generally required for using Cloud services. When the internet connection is inactive, one is unable to carry out Cloud-dependent tasks.

Understanding the technology behind Cloud Computing enables one to comprehend what Cloud is, how does it function, and what had been done in the backend to make everything so reachable and scalable. In other words, comprehending the technology helps one to solve the mystery around Cloud. It is better to try and unearth the secret before the mystery grows more and more. The term “Cloud Computing” consists of two words, namely “Cloud” and “Computing”. The Cloud is something that is ever-expanding, connecting virtually, following the fundamental set of protocols, sharing, and distributing information. “Computing”, on the other hand, is made up of challenges that present themselves during the mapping of the resources so that it can benefit the user and can be availed over the internet.

One of the techniques used for sharing of resources in Cloud Computing is known as “Virtualization”.

In virtualization, the Cloud back-end layer that holds the principal access to physical resources is tied with “hyper-visor” layer while the technique of virtualization is performed. Virtual private servers runs on this technique wherein a dedicated physical server is converted into many virtual private servers, check out Vps vs Shared Hosting differences to learn more on hosting part of the cloud. Virtualization breaks one physical resource into several virtual resources, thus controlling the utilization and access limit to the single physical resource. The multiple virtual resources are subsequently allowed to be shared across various consumers, thereby bringing optimum resource utilization.
